Would you like to know a little about L'Arche Blue Ridge?

L’Arche Blue Ridge Mountains is one of 16 communities that make up L’Arche USA (see www.larcheusa.org  for more information).  We are located in an attractive neighborhood in Lynchburg, VA, at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains.    Our faith-based community is made up of people who have intellectual and physical disabilities (core members)and those who assist them (assistants).  We live together in mutually supportive relationships, discovering the unique gifts and talents of every person.  Our goal is to be a sign of hope and a changing presence in the local community and the world.

In our community, each person is supported to discover and enjoy their own individual interests as far as jobs, hobbies, and recreational activities.  Assistants often spend one- on-one time with a core member as he or she lives out these personal goals.  However, we strongly value time together as a community at the dinner table, at church, by going on vacations together, and by participating in our local community nights as well as regional L’Arche events.  The home is conveniently located near a comprehensive suburban shopping center which provides easy banking, grocery shopping, and eating options.  We enjoy discovering all that our local community has to offer, and continually patronize our favorite coffee houses, restaurants, and music venues. 

We have finnished building a second home right next door to our first home in the Boonsboro area of Lynchburg.  In our first home we have four core members and four live-in assistants and in our second home we have five core members and four live in assistants. They are supported by a community leader, community life coordinator, program coordinator, assistant coordinator and full and part time live-out assistants.  There is 24/7 awake support for individuals who need assistance during the night. Our homes are made to be comfortable for all members, with elevators, accessible bathrooms, extra wide hallways, and large communal gathering spaces.  We are committed to providing life-time residence for those who choose our way of life.
